Turn Your Bedroom Into A Relaxing Retreat

Some people spend a great deal of money and time to create just the right look for an office, living room, or dining room. They may, however, neglect to give the bedroom the same attention. A comfortable bedroom can be a refreshing retreat, allowing you to relax before crawling into bed for a good, sound sleep.

You cannot create a warm and inviting environment by just spreading a king quilt on your bed. You need to begin with your furniture, in no particular style other than what you like. You should not cram in too many pieces for the size of the room, though. The more floor space you have, the larger and less cramped the room will feel. It will help make the room feel brighter and more airy. However, if there is enough room, you might consider a chaise and reading lamp for relaxing comfortably before bed.

Choose a bedding collection that is both appealing and inviting. This should be tailored to match your taste. It can be a floral pattern or one bright with geometric designs. Some prefer stripes in soft colors, a country design, or something with an Oriental flair. Others choose a solid in their favorite color, which can be mixed or matched with other solids.

A large mirror can help make the room seem larger and brighten up a dark area. A free standing mirror can also be functional for dressing, if you have enough room to easily walk around it. Otherwise, you may knock it down and it can also yield the opposite of what you wish by causing the bedroom to seem smaller. If you lack floor space, consider a wall mirror.

Do not go overboard with the wall decorations, limiting yourself to the equivalent of one large and two or three smaller ones. Too many hangings can cause you to feel confined and cramped. Whatever you choose should make you smile or give you a calm, relaxed feeling. It does not matter what you select as long as you react properly to viewing it. Some people may prefer a painting of a dragon, while some opt for seascapes.

Be careful that you do not overdo the home decor accents. Covering every square inch of space usually leads to a cluttered look that is difficult to clean. A collection, such as shells, blown glass, or figurines of animals, can be displayed in a curio in the corner. This helps prevent dust from settling on them but lets their beauty shine, especially in a lighted cabinet. You could also use a small round table topped by a glass case to display the collection.

Your bedroom should provide you with more than just a place to sleep. A warm and airy room can be your haven from the stress of the day. By decorating in a manner that will help you unwind, you can create your personal retreat.
