Making Scented Candles – 4 Tips for Creating Captivating Scented Masterpieces

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Aromatic candles heighten the ambience of any room in the house. If you are a soft, romantic person, you will enjoy the aroma of scented candles. You and your guests will be treated to a sense of calm and well being. As you will appreciate, the flickering glow of any candle heightens the elegance of a room.

Even before it is lit, the subtle fragrance of a scented candle will heighten your energy level,. When you arrive home tired and worn out from the day, the aroma & warm glow of a scented candle tends to loosen your tightness & lift your energy level.

Aromatic candles serve as wonderful gifts for all occasions and every season, and they are particularily meaningful when crafted by your own hands.

1. Choose Your {Candle Making Fragrance}

Fragrance oil is available in virtually any craft shop. You can also shop for it online. I would suggest that you opt for fragrance oils rather than going for cheap water or alcohol based fragrances. Your wax mix will be oil based, so your fragrance should also be oil based. Why? Well, as oil and water do not blend, the water from a water based perfume tends not to mix with the melted wax.

2. Pick Your Wax

The basics of {making a scented candle} are more or less the same as for ordinary wax candles. Start by selecting your wax. These days the market offers a versatile range of wax, starting from natural waxes made from beeswax, palm or soy and on to gel or paraffin wax. Decide on the aromatic intensity of your candles before making a wax selection. For instance, in case of gel candles, gel wax with less density holds less fragrance compared to gel wax with higher density.

3. The Art of Scented Candle Making

Now we’ll go through the process of creating aromatic candles.

The first step is to melt your wax. I suggest using a double boiler. That means place the wax in a small pot and, in turn, put that container into a slightly larger pot containing water. Now heat the H2O. Use a thermometer to avoid burning your wax. The temperature must be kept between 170 &180 degrees F.

After the wax is melted, insert a wick into the mold and remove your wax from it’s source of heat. Now add the fragrance oil that you have chosen. A mixture of 1 ounce fragrance oil to 1 pound wax will produce a fragrance that permeates your candle up to 6% of its density. Greater amounts of fragrance oil will cause the candle to burn out quicker.

Now pour your melted wax/fragrance mix into it’s mold. The only job remaining is to let it cool before removing your candle from it’s mold.

Congratulations! You’re finished!

4. Try Different Things as You Go

You will gain great expertise in all phases of candle making once you start experimenting. By using different fragrances and colors, you will perfect the candle making technique and thoroughly enjoy the process.

It’s a great feeling to gift your friends with a {scented candle that is homemade} knowing that they will find the fragrance both relaxing and invigorating.

Recycled Products : A Simple Overview

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Items manufactured from re-used materials fall into the category of recycled products. Scrap or waste materials reach recycling facilities and get reconditioned by passing through specific treatments. By special technologies, such products are made again in a new form. Many advantages come with using recycled products.

Natural resources such as water, oil, trees or electricity can be better conserved by the use of recycled products, not to mention that you can also protect the wildlife habitat. The reuse and recycle practices thus prevent the destruction of natural environment. Moreover, the reduction of pollution directly results from recycling, and here is why we have one other strong point in its favor.

The market is intoxicated with products made from primary resources, and statistics indicate that the consume is far beyond the recycling capacity that we have at present. Using recycled products comes with a certain level of consumer awareness and education. The Earth-friendly goal in fact animates any campaign for recycled products, but the support of the public is essential for success.

Recycled products such as paper are very much within reach for the average user, not to mention that they are very cheap too. Lots of savings can be achieved from this effort alone as we reduce the water, electricity and energy consume besides the primary matter necessary for the virgin paper. Statistics indicate that between 7 and 24 trees are saved for every ton of recycled paper. You can read about more savings in the special reports available online.

People earn their living worldwide by working in recycled products manufacturing facilities. The green process is complete when the recycling effort is supported by the consume of the recycled products. Natural resources have a somber future if the recycling market does not receive firm and strong support.

Therefore, it is not enough to recycle the waste, but also to buy the new recycled products in order to close the loop. Otherwise, only half the job is done. Let’s show the same interest for the finite recycled product as we show for the recycling process. Reused material can often provide the same quality standards if it is recycled well. Therefore, continue your efforts by backing the entire recycling process!

Besides recycled products related information, the author of this review has been published many other information, such as home furniture reviews. If you are interested to check out the review, you can visit the special website on portable fireplaces where you get to know about ventless gas fireplaces option and related information.

More Electric Fuel Stations Are On The Way

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Britain’s road infrastructure is spreading fast with many more charge-up point across the country.

London is of course the first place where everything kicked off but now there are other places who have started up the idea. Brighton is the next place in which cars are going to see a bit of electric activity.

Brighton was chosen because it’s the home of Elektromotive, the company that developed and makes the Elektrobay roadside charging station and which has installed more than 100 in London since 2006. Brighton only currently has four stations that can be accessed which for such a big place is nothing at all.

The Elektrobay is capable of charging fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars, with customers getting a key fob that wirelessly unlocks the unit for roadside charging.

The great thing is that by moving to a smaller place it is starting to show just how big of an impact it is all making.

There are actually two big reasons why people are just not that interested in buying one of these cars, one is because they are a bit rubbish and two is that there arent enough places to charge them. People won’t buy an electric car for both of these reasons.

However, once there is somewhere to charge up people will get them and that will in turn create demand for more research funding to make better cars.

So although there are actually not very many places where you can charge up your vehicle if you give it a bit of time we could be on to something here.

The real question that needs to be asked is will they be upgrading things like used cars to make them greener? If you have recently gone out and purchased a  Audi TT Roadster then you are not going to be pleased when you cannot upgrade it to make it a bit greener. Audi Cars is just one of the brands that needs to be looked into for this.

Staying Youthful, Fit, And Healthy Through Cleaner Living

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Time and time again we have been warned by the scientific community that while our progress in technology and otherwise is impressive, it is also potentially toxic. Studies have found that almost everything we come in contact with on a daily basis threatens our health, including the air we breathe inside homes and buildings.

Because we can not truly control the changes to the environment outside of our home, we have to protect our health against the chronic accumulation of these toxins to the best of our ability. By giving ourselves and our families the cleanest and greenest home that we can, we offer the body a place to release much of those toxins and recuperate from significant daily exposure. Science has created a fantastic modern world that enhances our lives while simultaneously driving up the disease and death toll.

You can start simply by adding natural arthritis remedies to your daily regimen. Vegetarian glucosamine can help repair the joints. Turning toward holistic healing can help reduce the need for chemically based medications. As we continue to find that progress pushes us steadily toward the future, each of us is trying to find ways to become healthier in an unhealthy world.

While it may be true that we can not escape the progress, how we treat our bodies and our environment on our own time can be a great combative weapon. Your healthy, clean living can provide your body with the essentials it needs to flush out the toxic materials that it has absorbed or ingested. Your body can fight the effects of progress with merely a change in lifestyle.

The younger and faster we give our bodies organics and wipe out the internal threats as we can the sooner you can start to repair some of the damage. People who have made a transition from unhealthy living to green and clean living feel younger, have more energy, are more tolerant and slow to anger, and are healthier overall. This is fantastic evidence that it is working.

If you smoke, quitting now helps to undermine the threat of cancer, and a clean environment will help repair much of the damage thus far. Green living can’t prevent cancer cells that have already developed, but it can help reverse initial damage. Within just a couple of weeks most people report feeling better overall, having greater energy, and living in a cleaner and more comfortable home.

Our natural body was never organically designed to accept the high level of toxic exposure that we face every day. Rather, it was designed to be naturally balanced and well cared for so that it could perform at its best. The rate and young age of pollutant and toxin related diseases have spread throughout the country as a result. While scientific progress has given us much, it has also condemned us to a poorer state of health.

Warming Facts – The Effects Global Warming will Have on Snow Levels

Monday, January 4th, 2010

This article does not address the environmental problems or global warming solutions; it concentrates on what alterations there will be to snow levels and ski weather till the end of the century.

Let’s admit it – the world is warming up at an exponential rate whether we like it or not (pardon the pun). Let’s avoid the slow, upsetting music soundtrack with the politicallly charged commentary and the occasional crash of thunder. We are not discussing the apocalypse here. I want to know about the future of ski weather and the global warming facts that may change mountain snowfall. Last winter had some of the biggest snowfalls ever – check this clip which demonstrates the current ski weather trend.

In the space of the next hundred years there could be an increase of up to 6.4°C in worldwide temperatures, which is about five times the upward swing during the whole of the last century. Many people think that snow levels will go down as rain takes over, but this is not really the case.

Let’s just take a brief and simplistic look at how the climate affects our ski weather. We’ll call rain and snow ‘precipitation’. Water vapour or hot wet air ascends from the equator, heated by the sun. This water vapour forms the vast circular weather systems in the north and south hemispheres as it cools and descends, moved along by the earth’s rotational forces.

We’ll see what goes on in the northern hemisphere. Weather systems here progress from west to east and precipitation starts as these weather systems move up and over. And the landmass we are concerned with is the west coast of America (the Rockies) and the west coast of Europe (the Alps). As we are aware, the air is pushed up over the Rockies and the Alps where it either snows or rains.

Commercial Break: Make the best of Ski Weather – Improve Skiing Fitness – Buy a Bike

With the climate warming up we are going to get more moisture in the weather systems coming up from the equator, so the precipitation will be higher. But will it be rain or snow?. If as we believe the temperature will be 6.5°C higher by the end of the century we can reckon that the altitude where rain changes to snow will move up a mountain roughly 1000 metres during this time. This is because the temperature drops by about 6.5°C per 1000 metres of altitude. The precipitation will be more pronounced and the rain/snow level wil be moving up the mountainside at a rate of roughly 10 metres a year.

Well, that’s it then – more snow. But it’s not that simple. What effect, for example, will the melting Greenland glaciers have on the Gulf Stream? There are other questions too, but this is the big one. Presently, this fast moving current of warm seawater, coming up from the Equator, keeps the western coast of Europe relatively warm. But thirteen thousand years ago an inland sea in Canada stopped the Gulf Stream dead when it burst its banks, dropping into the Atlantic and starting the last Ice Age in Europe. The same pattern could emerge if the accelerated melting of the Greenland glaciers pours unprecedented amounts of cold fresh water into the Gulf Stream and clunk – it switches off. Then we would have more snow than we bargained for…

How To Live Environmentally Friendly

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

There are both moderate and radical solutions available for people interested in how to live environmentally friendly. The thing is that it very much depends on the changes one is willing and ready to make in the lifestyle. Nothing can be implemented by force and only personal awareness and consideration for the natural world can make a difference. Here are a few examples of how to live environmentally friendly in day-to-day situations.

how to live environmentally friendly

Save water with quick showers and less water consume when dish washing. Reduce the heating level as well as the electricity bill by saving energy with the hot water and the replacement of the incandescent bulbs. Spend time outdoors in open air activities rather than in front of the computer or the TV. Buy organic food instead of the non-organic products available in the supermarkets. This will encourage local farming and promote good health. Reduce the number of toxic chemicals you use for cleaning and replace them with natural products. Reuse and repair things.

These are just a few tips that you can consider when you are learning the basics for how to live environmentally friendly. Once you are able to implement such elements into daily existence, you can consider yourself ready for more serious changes such as the purchase of an electric or hybrid car, the installation of a solar heating system or the exclusive use of environmental products.

There are many solutions to learn how to live environmentally friendly, but the richest source of information about eco-life solutions remains the Internet. You will find out that some things are more difficult to implement than others because of the resistance of bad habits or because you lack the means. Even so, the important thing is to do everything in your power to live in accordance with the laws of nature and without harming the environment on purpose.

how to live environmentally friendly

The truth is that most people are superficially interested in how to live environmentally friendly, and they only come to apply part of the things we’ve counted above, as they find it too difficult to meet all the conditions for a fully green living. Even so, there is a little gain in their preoccupations, and one can only hope that for the future, more will come out of a very well-intended initiative. Strive to be green friendly every day, and in time it will turn into a habit!

Recycled Products

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Recycled products are items manufactured from materials that have been used before. Scrap or waste materials reach recycling facilities and get reconditioned by passing through specific treatments. By special technologies, such products are made again in a new form. The advantages of using recycled products are manifold.

recycled paper products

Natural resources such as water, oil, trees or electricity can be better conserved by the use of recycled products, not to mention that you can also protect the wildlife habitat. The natural beauty in the environment can thus be saved from destruction with every effort we make to reuse or recycle. Moreover, pollution decreases, and here we have the biggest advantage of all.

The truth is that most of the items available on the market are not recycled, because the consume is a lot higher than the recycling capacity available at present. Efforts are being made to encourage people to choose recycled products more both in order to reduce the consume and to protect the environment. The Earth-friendly goal in fact animates any campaign for recycled products, but the support of the public is essential for success.

recycled wood products

The average user can invest in recycled products such as paper, because it is cheaper and within reach. Considerable savings are thus possible not only with trees and water but with electricity as well. Every ton of recycled paper saves between seven and twenty-four trees; just think about it! If you read other reports in the same category, you’ll see for yourself the total amount of savings possible.

The industries manufacturing recycled products provide a substantial number of jobs for lots of people worldwide. The recycling effort is complete if the recycled products get in us. Estimates are very somber for the future of the natural resources if people do not start supporting the recycling markets more intensely.

recycled products

Therefore, it is not enough to recycle the waste, but also to buy the new recycled products in order to close the loop. Otherwise, we just get half the job done. Let’s show the same interest for the finite recycled product as we show for the recycling process. Reused material can often provide the same quality standards if it is recycled well. Therefore, let’s double our efforts and support the complete recycling process!

How To Grow Green

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Anyone can lead a more sustainable lifestyle with the right information and enough environment awareness; anyone can learn how to go green too. The grounds of any earth friendly initiative is the reduce, reuse and recycle effort. You don’t have to be a tree-hugger in order to help reduce pollution, prevent waste, enjoy better health and make savings.

how to grow green part

How to go green? Well, it is first and foremost a matter of perception. Carefully analyze your daily habits, the peculiarities of your lifestyle and then see where you stand. You can even keep a closer track by using some ‘green journal’ for a week, and then come to a conclusion. From the car you drive to the meals you eat, the clothes you wear and the electronics you rely on, everything will define your attitude towards the environment.

how to grow green grass

Some people discover that some of their very habits correspond to the definition of the basics for how to grow green. If you are biking, recycling, using energy-saving bulbs and eating organic food, then that’s the right track to stick to. Here are some suggestions in case you still need help. Stop wasting food. It is better to buy less than to throw food away. Analyze your non-essential purchases and see how you can reduce them. Save the paper of magazines, books and newspapers that you can read in digital format. Limit the number of shopping errands. Do the shopping once, getting everything your need. Keep an eye on vintage products, they make good alternative to new and expensive stuff. Try to reuse household items as best as you can.

Green Friendly

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

There are plenty of ways to choose a green-friendly lifestyle, but it all resumes to personal convictions and beliefs. People often tend to associate green-friendly products will a lack of individual comfort, and the rawest and most striking example is the ultra brands of toilet paper that feel so soft on the bum. Well, you may not know or care that the fiber used for such products comes from virgin wood fiber taken from tree pulp. Next time when you consider yourself a green-friendly person, think about your daily habits and find out how serious your environmental concern really is.

green friendly

The food you eat tells a lot about how green-friendly you are. Whether out of preoccupation for personal health or care for the environment, lots of people buy local food instead of the non-organic products available in hypermarkets. A vegetables garden will produce very nice food that can be kept 100% pesticide free. And here we have an inexpensive way of covering the need for beans, peas, tomatoes, carrots or peppers. If you don’t have the possibility to grow the vegetables yourself, you can buy from local green-friendly farms.

green friendly living

Then, to give some further green-friendly lifestyle examples we come to the importance of outdoor activities. Consider how much time you or your children spend in front of the TV or computer screen. The most important thing you can do when guiding him/her in the choice of leisure activities is to give him/her a dose of nature. Sports like climbing or cycling, family camping and other activities in natural settings will encourage children to seek a nature-oriented life. Fewer video game consoles would sell every year, if more parents thought like that.

green living

A green-friendly life is defined by several other elements. From the effort to recycle and reuse to the very building of a house according to sustainable criteria, there is so much one can do to stay in harmony with the environment. We do separate our waste for recycling but very sometimes not even that happens and we don’t even care where the garbage goes. We forget that the very fish we have for dinner comes from a dirty ocean and that it could carry the germs and toxins that we fed it in the first place.
